Project Rooms 2004

Melbourne Art Fair 2004's Project Rooms featured new work created by: Tina Gonsalves (Australian Centre for the Moving Image); Chris Bond (Bus Gallery); Concettina Inserra (Centre for Contemporary Photography); Harriet Parsons (Gertrude Contemporary Art Spaces); Peter Callas, Paula Dawson, Linda Dement, Granular Synthesis, Ian Haig, Troy Innocent, LeCielEstBleu, Lycette Bros, Metraform and Stelarc (Novamedia); Louise Paramor (The Ian Potter Museum of Art); Tom Muller (World Passport); and Kate Cotching (West Space).

    Australian Centre for the Moving Image

    Tina Gonsalvez's work for Melbourne Art Fair 2004, presented by the Australian Centre for the Moving Image, involved a media exploration focused on the human condition, from internal/external and emotional landscapes, through to studies on movement, perceptions, and personal space.

    Chris Bond's work for Melbourne Art Fair 2004, presented by Bus Gallery, involved found objects transformed into painted artefacts that simulated and reconstructed standard modes of artistic presentation and investigated the history of art and objects.

    Centre for Contemporary Photography

    Concettina Inserra's work for Melbourne Art Fair 2004, presented by Centre for Contemporary Photography, Melbourne involved a series of photographic portraits of Melbourne contemporary artists. Exploring portraiture and challenging the traditional representation of the artist, these portraits were taken in the artist's home in an attempt to integrate their role as artist with the domestic, intimate and everyday aspects of identity.

    Gertrude Contemporary Art Spaces

    Harriet Parsons' work for Melbourne Art Fair 2004, presented by Gertrude Contemporary Art Spaces, involved sculptures made from improvised constructions of domestic and commercial litter, needle lace and electronics, combined with painting and drawing to form an urban fantasy of marshes and mountains accompanied by the electronic tones of Morse code indications.

    Louise Paramor's work for Melbourne Art Fair 2004, presented by The Ian Potter Museum of Art involved an installation of structures taking with architectural and spatial proportions that challenge notions that decorations are simply meant to adorn and beautify their surroundings.

    Tom Muller

    Tom Muller's work for Melbourne Art Fair 2004, World Passport, involved a replica passport enabling the holder to travel freely to any county across the globe. The intention of Tom's work is the reformation of social and political boundaries in order to bring people closer together and to increase their global awareness.

    Kate Cotching's work for Melbourne Art Fair 2004, presented by West Space, involved works of art made using a precision-knife and hand coloured paper sheets, where millions of tiny incisions are made and sections of the paper are selectively removed and discarded.
